An independent information site about New Zealand apprenticeships: what they pay, how long they take, how the system works, and which employers take apprentices on.

What this site is

Three things. A set of guides to the parts of an apprenticeship that are governed by rules — the wage floors, the subsidies, who administers your training — each one sourced to the government page it came from and dated. A set of trade pages with the pay, duration and entry requirements published by Tahatū Career Navigator. And an index of 42 New Zealand employers that take on apprentices.

What it is not

• Not a training provider, an employer, a recruiter or a government agency.
• Not able to arrange an apprenticeship, pass on an application or tell you who is hiring.
• Not a review site. There are no reviews or ratings here for any employer.
• Not paid for by anyone listed on it. No company can buy a listing, a position or a removal.

Why there are no reviews, on a site called Rate Your Apprenticeship

Because a review is only worth reading if an apprentice actually wrote it, and we do not have those yet. A star rating attached to a real, named New Zealand business is a serious thing to publish, and we will not publish one we cannot stand behind.

So the employer listings carry name, trade and region only. We would rather run a site whose name is currently a promise than one that keeps the name by making things up. Our editorial policy sets out the rules we hold ourselves to.

How it is paid for

It is not, yet. There is no advertising, no paid placement, no employer profiles and no referral fees. If that ever changes it will be disclosed on this page before it goes live, and it will never be a payment from a company in exchange for how it appears in the index.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to fix it. If a listing is yours and you want it corrected or removed, we will do that without argument. Get in touch.
